A look at our head of Orthopaedic Department
Before the recent completion of the Orthopaedic Building at the Laniado Hospital, the department director, Dr. Claude Picard spoke about the position he left in Switzerland, the terror attack at the Park Hotel, and adapting to a new mentality amongst the people of Israel. “In Israel, I learned not to jump in too deep too quickly”
The Calling
“It all started 15 years ago, when the local butcher returned home to Switzerland after witnessing an accident in Netanya. Out of curiosity he asked where the wounded were being taken,” says Dr. Claude Picard. “To his surprise, the answer was to Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba. This is how he learned that there was no Orthopaedic Department at Laniado. He realized that something must be done and approached me.”
Moving to Israel
Dr. Picard, a senior Orthopaedist from Switzerland, didn’t think twice before rising to the challenge. “My major reason for aliyah was Zionism,” he explains. “I had thought about aliyah for a long time, but did nothing about it. I waited for something to push me to make the step – and it came. I saw the urgent need for this this department.”
