Oooooh. Mmmmmm. Yeahhhh.
Nope, it doesn’t. Sorry to get your hopes high. The heatiness in the durian may cause your body temperature to rise, but it does not make the fruit an aphrodisiac.
Surprise surprise. Durians do have health benefits.
Eating durians can actually improve your mood. Durians are rich in the amino acid tryptophan which alleviates anxiety, depression, and insomnia. It also raises the levels of serotonin in the brain, which creates feelings of euphoria.
Are you kidding? We’re called Durian Garden for a reason.
We know how addictive it is, and people tend to overeat. Our advice is eat in moderation. The durian is a highly nutritious fruit that can provide our body with many minerals, vitamins and good fats.
Why bother? Just get more and make the smell permanent.
Okay, we’re kidding. Just leave a medium-sized piece of charcoal in your fridge and let it sit for a few days to remove the smell. You can also try this with baking soda, lemon or lime peel, or pandan leaves.
That may sound good, but don’t try this at home. Or anywhere else.
It is likely to cause bloating, indigestion and discomfort as your liver has to work extra hard to metabolise both fats and sugars in the durians and the alcohol, especially if you have consumed both in excessive amounts.
At Durian Garden, we’d love to say everyday but we can’t defy Mother Nature.
The durian season is influenced by the north-east and south-west monsoons, which typically happens around June to August. We still have durians throughout the year, check with us if you’re unsure!
Take up our challenge – sniff some jackfruit.
If you’re not that adventurous, simply put water in an empty durian shell, mix it up a bit, and you have a mixture you can use to gargle. You can also run tap water over the thorny durian shell and let the water rinse over your fingers.
